About Corneys Corner Keeshonds

<><><><><> In my younger years, I, like many others, started out with German Shepherds.   Pictured below is my son, John, with one of our dogs. While going to college, teaching school, raising a family, and running our own business, I gave up shows for a while. When we were talking about retiring to Florida and living in a condo while we found a house, my husband wanted a Fox Terrier. We didn't get a Fox Terrier but found, after a lot of searching, a nice smooth coated Parson Russell. I purchased "Snowflake" for my husband for, what we later found, to be his last Christmas. Snowflake was shown a few times, but grew a little too large for the Florida Parson ring. Snowflake is a great dog and kept my husband John laughing even while he was sick with cancer. After John died, I watched Snowflake playing with the grandchildren. Snowflake loves the children but she had her own agenda and when a squirrel was involved, she didn't care that there was a three-year-old on the other end of the leash. I found a house and wanted another dog but a breed that would be great with my grandchildren. I knew I liked Keeshonds and they seemed to be the ideal breed, so I called my old friend Phyllis. Phyllis had no puppies at the time and referred me to her friend in Florida, Patti Colcord. One day my granddaughter, Mina and I headed for Vero Beach to pick out Mina's "Angel". At the time, we also brought home Angel's brother, Ranger, for my grandson Bishop. Angel loves to be read to and encourages Mina and other children to read stories to her. She especially likes stories about other dogs and sometimes even puts her paw on a page to make a point. About a year or so later, I started talking with Karen Evasuik of Twin Trees Kennel. Karen sent me my next love, "Beemer". Beemer and I have been very close -- close enough that Beemer can sense when something is wrong. He has, on occasion, let me know when my blood sugar was dropping. I try to be careful with it because I don't want Beemer to be upset. I got Beemer's CGC and his International Championship and Sherri Kovach finished his American Championship for me (my neuropathy has gotten worse more rapidly than anticipated). Last year, at the National Specialty, we finished Beemer's Rally Novice title and are now working toward other obedience degrees. My office is attached to my house so we "all" go to work-- my kennel is my house, we all sleep together, and I love watching the kees' antics as they play in or out of the house. I have made many friends in dogs, some of which are widows like me. Some are friends from years past, others I have yet to meet. My grandchildren and my dogs and dog friends are very special and truly a gift. I thank God every day for each and every one of you! Edna
